The Mask Cafe

The Mask Cafe is an innovative interior design project that masterfully blends Venetian cultural elements with contemporary Arabian aesthetics, situated in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This sophisticated hospitality venue, spanning approximately 480 square meters with both indoor and outdoor spaces, draws its primary inspiration from the legendary Venetian Carnival masks, creating a unique dining atmosphere that celebrates the cultural parallels between Venice and Jeddah. The interior design scheme employs a luxurious black and gold color palette, complemented by authentic Venetian masks specially imported from Italy, which serve as distinctive wall decorations and focal points throughout the space. The cafe's design concept emerged from extensive research into the geographical, cultural, and historical similarities between these two historic port cities, resulting in a sophisticated interpretation that resonates with both local and international clientele. Completed in February 2023 after six months of meticulous execution, the project features carefully curated furniture and decor elements sourced internationally, while maintaining strong connections to local architectural traditions. The space is characterized by its 4-meter ceiling height, creating an atmosphere of grandeur that perfectly complements the theatrical nature of its mask-inspired design elements. The project, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional achievement in spatial planning, material selection, and cultural integration. Designer Mea'ad AlAbboud's vision successfully transforms the traditional cafe concept into an immersive design experience, where each element contributes to a narrative that bridges Italian and Saudi Arabian cultural heritage, while maintaining functionality and modern comfort for its patrons.
