The Joy Of Fish Residential House
The Joy of Fish Residential House is an innovative residential architectural project completed in 2015, distinguished by its harmonious integration of urban convenience and natural elements, earning recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category. Designed by Jimmy Yung and Ziyin Huang, this 139-square-meter dwelling embodies the philosophical principles of Chinese thinker Zhuangzi, particularly his concept of carefree wandering and unity with nature, while incorporating modernist minimalist principles. The two-story structure features a unique reversed layout, with communal spaces positioned on the upper floor to maximize views and natural light, while bedrooms occupy the lower level. The design philosophy emphasizes sustainability and environmental consciousness through the thoughtful use of materials, including polished concrete floors, recycled wood, and bamboo elements. Situated strategically between urban and suburban environments, the house's northeast-facing orientation optimizes thermal comfort throughout the seasons. The upper floor's open-plan design, encompassing living, dining, and kitchen areas, promotes social interaction and family togetherness while maintaining a connection to the surrounding landscape through expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that offer 270-degree views. The project's achievement in creating a home resort atmosphere rather than a conventional residence is particularly noteworthy, as is its successful implementation of storage solutions that prioritize entertaining spaces. The design's emphasis on natural materials and minimalist aesthetics not only reflects respect for the environment but also creates a peaceful retreat that embodies the designer's interpretation of actionless governance, transforming philosophical concepts into tangible architectural elements that promote well-being and sustainable living.
