The Family Bonding Residence

The Family Bonding Residence

The Family Bonding Residence is an exemplary residential interior design project that masterfully combines aesthetic sophistication with functional living spaces, recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category. Located halfway up a mountain in Chiayi City, Taiwan, this 396.6-square-meter dwelling serves dual purposes as a retirement home and guest house, embodying the fundamental concept of familial connection through thoughtful spatial design. The project's distinctive features include an innovative upward-sloping curved ceiling that extends from the entrance through to the living and dining areas, creating an expansive visual effect. The interior showcases a refined material palette incorporating flowing marble floor tiles, wood grains, and sophisticated dark stone elements, all unified by a carefully curated color scheme of taupe, black, and warm brown tones. Notable design elements include a uniquely integrated center island bar with a geomancy fish tank, a specialized wine cabinet with temperature control systems, and a fireplace that adds warmth to the living space. The designer, Shi Jie Zhou, has implemented several innovative solutions, such as the strategically beveled corner lighting beneath the staircase and hidden pull-out storage solutions that maximize spatial efficiency. The living room features a distinctive white marbled TV wall cabinet with an intentional gap creating an artistic framing effect, while the overall design philosophy emphasizes the harmonious flow between spaces through curved lines and water-inspired imagery. This residential project, completed in July 2021, exemplifies how contemporary interior design can foster family bonding and create an atmosphere of sophisticated comfort while maintaining practical functionality.
