The Exo Towers Office Building

The Exo Towers Office Building is a remarkable architectural achievement comprising dual towers interconnected by a 70-meter-high central glazed atrium, serving as a digital finance center in Jinghu New District, Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, China. Completed in 2021 after an eight-year development period, this innovative structure features a 15-story (94m) and a 21-story (121m) tower, encompassing a gross floor area of 74,000 square meters. The building's distinctive design employs an external structural system that minimizes internal columns, creating expansive, adaptable office spaces capable of accommodating evolving banking operations in response to digital transformation challenges. The architectural language emerges from the seamless integration of space and structure, utilizing a hybrid system of steel and concrete construction. The building's sophisticated engineering includes a central concrete core working in conjunction with an external steel frame, while the towers are united by two substantial trusses at the atrium's apex. The exterior is characterized by linen-patterned stainless steel cladding and an innovative cable-net glazing system that achieves exceptional transparency through concealed anchoring mechanisms. Six sky bridges span between the towers along the west facade, enhancing horizontal connectivity, while cloud-shaped sunshades suspended within the atrium contribute to environmental control. The design employs a precise 1.5m x 1.5m modular grid system that coordinates architectural elements, spatial organization, and technical services. This integrated approach, combined with extensive prefabrication methods, resulted in significant construction efficiency, reducing on-site labor requirements by approximately one-third compared to conventional projects of similar scale. The project's excellence in architectural innovation and structural integrity was recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, acknowledging its contribution to advancing architectural design standards and its response to contemporary workplace needs.
