The Empress Ring

The Empress Ring is an exquisite piece of jewelry design that exemplifies the fusion of historical narrative and contemporary craftsmanship, created by Victor A. Syrnev in collaboration with master stone cutter Tom Munsteiner. This remarkable ring, which won the Golden A' Design Award in the Jewelry Design category, features a masterfully cut pyrope gemstone of 17.41 carats, suspended in an innovative mounting that creates the illusion of the stone floating above its 18-karat yellow gold setting. The design draws inspiration from the tragic historical figure of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, the last Russian Empress, incorporating architectural elements that reflect both classical jewelry traditions and avant-garde spatial forms. The ring's sophisticated construction employs multiple soldering techniques at varying temperature regimes to achieve its complex structure, measuring 25.0 x 20.5 x 25.0 millimeters. Distinguished by its unique stone-setting technique, the ring features diamonds of 1.8 millimeters set in a platinum plate that accentuates the primary pyrope stone's brilliance. The stone's exceptional cut, featuring complex faceting on its bottom side, reveals an internal fire that symbolizes the strength and dignity of its imperial inspiration. Despite its substantial size, the ring is engineered to be worn comfortably on any of the three middle fingers, demonstrating a harmonious balance between artistic expression and functional design. Completed in 2013 and first exhibited at the National Art Museum in Bishkek, this piece represents a significant achievement in contemporary jewelry design, combining historical reverence with innovative technical execution.
