The Dough Shelf is an innovative furniture design that revolutionizes the conventional approach to shelving through its unique exploration of material properties and structural dynamics. Created by Chinese designer Jie Luo, this avant-garde piece stands 1340mm tall, 790mm wide, and 310mm deep, incorporating an ingenious combination of galvanized iron sheet and wooden elements. The design challenges traditional material stereotypes by inverting expected roles: utilizing wood for structural support while transforming industrial galvanized iron sheets into flexible, organic forms. This groundbreaking approach employs two layers of 0.5mm thick galvanized iron sheet complemented by 35mm square wood components, creating a harmonious interplay between rigidity and fluidity. The shelf's distinctive aesthetic emerges from the designer's fascination with repurposing industrial materials, specifically galvanized iron sheets typically reserved for utilitarian applications such as restaurant chimneys and containers.
