The Cube Private House
The Cube Private House is an innovative architectural masterpiece located in Kuwait, exemplifying a harmonious blend of modern luxury design with traditional Arabic architectural elements. This four-story concrete and steel structure, winner of the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, represents a sophisticated exploration of spatial dynamics through the conceptual manipulation of a cubic form. The design, conceived by architect Ahmed Habib, addresses the complex challenges of creating a quality living experience while respecting local cultural requirements for privacy and climate considerations. The structure encompasses 1,860 square meters of built area, featuring a thoughtful composition of materials including honed silver travertine stone, black steel, and matt walnut wood. The architectural concept revolves around the principle of addition and subtraction within a cubic volume, creating a dynamic interplay between internal and external spaces. Two shifted masses form the core of the design, incorporating an innovative internal atrium with climate control systems and two external courts inspired by traditional Arabic housing principles. The building's sophisticated layout includes multiple specialized entrances, with the spatial arrangement spanning from a basement level housing daily living spaces and recreational facilities, through to formal reception areas on the ground floor, private family quarters on upper levels, and culminating in a roof garden. The facade features a striking central black metal screen inspired by Islamic patterns, while two imposing stone walls reminiscent of ancient temples create a dramatic approach via a moat-like bridge to the main entrance. The design's environmental consciousness is evident in its strategic orientation, which facilitates natural ventilation and provides essential shade to the front yard while maintaining cultural privacy requirements.
