The Carmel Interior Design
The Carmel Interior Design is an award-winning residential interior design project completed in December 2020, exemplifying a harmonious blend of resort-style aesthetics and functional living spaces within a 1,722 square-feet house in Hong Kong. Designed by Matthew Li, this sophisticated interior scheme employs a minimalist white and light oak wood palette to create a serene, vacation-like atmosphere that serves as a peaceful retreat for its occupants. The design's most notable features include the masterful utilization of high ceilings, enhanced by two statement ceiling lights in the living area that create visual interest without compromising spatial flow. The layout incorporates an open-plan living and dining area to facilitate family interaction, while cleverly positioned full-height storage solutions maintain aesthetic cleanliness despite substantial storage requirements. The designer's thoughtful approach to space optimization is evident in the strategic placement of furniture along walls to maximize open areas, and the conversion of two rooms into dedicated game and study spaces for balanced family living. Natural illumination plays a crucial role in the design, with large windows allowing abundant daylight to permeate the space, reinforcing the resort-inspired concept. The project, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, successfully addresses the challenge of potential monotony in an all-white scheme through carefully curated elements including light oak furniture, vibrant artwork, and architectural lighting features, demonstrating excellence in both aesthetic and functional design considerations.
