The Box Office

The Box Office is an innovative workplace and design studio located in Taipei City, Taiwan, conceived as a sanctuary for collecting and cultivating design ideas. This thoughtfully renovated space, situated in an old apartment adjacent to a park, exemplifies a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetic refinement through its sophisticated architectural interventions. The design's primary philosophy centers on maximizing spatial freedom while respecting material authenticity and environmental integration, spanning 110 square meters of meticulously crafted interior space. Distinguished by its retracted front yard that creates an expansive entrance, the space ingeniously incorporates natural elements through carefully considered glazing that captures the interplay of sunlight and tree shadows. The interior architecture features exposed beam-column structures, an impressive book wall, and a spiral staircase that extends through the hall, creating a sense of spatial grandeur. A pivotal design element is the centrally positioned turnable bookcase, functioning both as a spine and partition, facilitating fluid circulation while creating varied spatial layers. The material palette, comprising light walnut wood, veneer, steel, and glass, demonstrates a commitment to material honesty, with each element expressing its inherent properties under thoughtfully designed lighting conditions. The project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, showcases exceptional attention to detail in its treatment of existing features, such as the preservation of an aged cement wall that adds character and historical context to the space. During daylight hours, the space functions as a collector of light and ideas, while at night, it transforms into a beacon of creative inspiration, embodying the studio's mission to foster authentic creative expression and collaborative design thinking.
