The Bird Hide Residential Interior Design

The Bird Hide Residential Interior Design

The Bird Hide Residential Interior Design is an innovative residential interior design project located in Hong Kong's Southern District that masterfully integrates natural elements with contemporary living spaces. This 577-square-foot apartment transformation, designed by Tommy Hui, draws inspiration from bird observation shelters, creating a unique living environment that maximizes the unit's exceptional hillside views. The design's primary feature is a thoughtfully crafted row of window-side cabinets in the living room, enabling residents to comfortably observe the surrounding landscape, much like a traditional bird hide structure. The interior employs extensive use of warm wood tones throughout, including veneer-covered walls, wood-grain floor tiles, and wooden window blinds, creating a harmonious connection with the natural scenery beyond. A significant architectural intervention involved replacing the original partition wall between the living room and kitchen with a glass wall, enhancing spatial flow and natural light distribution while maintaining functional separation. The Japanese-influenced design accommodates the specific needs of its young couple residents, incorporating dedicated spaces for creative activities, including a custom-designed long table in the master bedroom for craft-making. The project, which won a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional space optimization and material selection, completed over a 4-5 month construction period. The design successfully creates a serene, nature-connected living environment that promotes work-life balance and personal well-being through its thoughtful architectural solutions and interior planning.
