The Biggie Restobar

The Biggie Restobar is an innovative architectural project that exemplifies the successful transformation of an existing structure into a contemporary hospitality venue, earning recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category. This distinctive establishment, conceived as a reimagined warehouse space, demonstrates masterful integration of old and new elements through its innovative use of mild steel structural framework to connect and envelop two pre-existing buildings - a house and garage - creating a dramatic central seating area with double-height volume. The design philosophy emphasizes the preservation and celebration of existing vegetation, with the structure thoughtfully designed around mature trees, incorporating them into the user experience through strategic positioning of openings, decks, and terraces. The architectural composition features sophisticated material selections, including texture-painted mild steel members, clay roof tiles with glass inserts that create dynamic light patterns, exposed brick walls, and a variety of flooring materials ranging from yellow oxide to polished cement tiles. The spatial journey begins with a deliberately understated entrance that leads guests through a narrow passage alongside a water feature designed to evoke flowing beer, opening dramatically into a voluminous interior space that accommodates a long bar counter and performance stage. The first floor overlooks this central area, while the entire volume connects seamlessly with an outdoor garden space. Notable design elements include innovative features such as the infinite beer bottle wall, rising beer froth-inspired flooring patterns, and thoughtfully integrated branding elements that pay homage to beer culture while maintaining architectural sophistication. The project, completed in 2016, spans 405 square meters of built area with an additional 223 square meters of deck and terrace space, demonstrating exceptional space utilization and environmental sensitivity while successfully balancing the dramatic scale of a warehouse with the intimate atmosphere of a café.
