Tempo House Residential House

Tempo House Residential House

Tempo House Residential House is a masterfully renovated colonial-style residence located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, that exemplifies the harmonious integration of historical architecture with contemporary design principles. This 1,500-square-meter residential project, which earned the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design, represents a sophisticated approach to architectural preservation and modernization. The renovation maintained the original exterior structure while completely transforming the interior layout to create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The design's most distinctive feature is its response to the extraordinary site, which showcases an original landscape plan featuring exotic flora. The architecture emphasizes this natural heritage through expansive windows and doors, while addressing Brazil's tropical climate through innovative solutions such as wooden exterior slat screens for thermal comfort and brightness control. The house incorporates sustainable features including solar panels and a rainwater collection system, demonstrating a commitment to environmental responsibility. A defining architectural element is the impressive 2.20 x 6.20-meter wooden door, requiring specialized engineering solutions for its operation. The interior design philosophy adopts a gallery-like approach, creating neutral backgrounds to showcase an extensive art collection, while the preservation and repurposing of endangered White Peroba wood from the original flooring in intimate areas reflects a dedication to historical conservation. The project's division into two distinct blocks - one for social areas and another for service spaces - maintains the colonial architecture's traditional spatial organization while introducing modern functionality and flow.
