Tanyue Mansion Public Space

Tanyue Mansion Public Space is a sophisticated architectural and interior design project completed in 2017, located in Hangzhou, China, that masterfully integrates contemporary design elements with traditional Chinese cultural aesthetics. This 1,013-square-meter public space, designed by Kris Lin and Jiayu Yang, is divided into two distinct zones: a Beauty Museum of Song Dynasty and a club house, both of which pay homage to the rich cultural heritage of the Song Dynasty period. The design draws particular inspiration from the works of Su Shi, a renowned Song Dynasty poet, incorporating elements from his famous piece Sudi Chunxiao which describes the West Lake landscape. The space features innovative architectural elements such as transparent and luminous walls that challenge traditional spatial definitions, while incorporating modern materials like silver hole stone mosaic in folding screens to create a woven fabric texture that references Chinese traditional culture. The ceiling design employs a unique approach using hanging scrolls that form a complete representation of Sudi Chunxiao, creating an artistic installation reminiscent of traditional Chinese seals. The integration of interior and outdoor water features in the waiting areas creates a seamless flow between spaces, while the tea club area emphasizes the cultural significance through carefully considered lobby and tea bar designs. This project, which won the Gold A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2018, demonstrates exceptional achievement in combining functional modern design with cultural preservation, setting new standards for contemporary Oriental architectural aesthetics.
