Taicang Readzone Bookstore is an innovative architectural and interior design project that exemplifies contemporary retail space design through its distinctive circular theater form layout. Located within a department store setting, this 368-square-meter bookstore represents a sophisticated integration of cultural space and commercial retail design, completed in June 2021. The design, conceived by Cheng Yu Hsieh and team, employs a theatrical spatial arrangement featuring towering maze-like book walls and multi-directional door frames that create an immersive urban street scene atmosphere. The space's radial configuration emanates from a central point, incorporating stainless steel ceiling elements that mitigate the visual weight of the structural components while symbolically representing the vastness of human knowledge. The design successfully accommodates multiple functional zones, including areas for individual reading, parent-child activities, and business meetings, with adaptable furniture arrangements that support various cultural events and literary salons. The project's innovative approach to spatial organization and user experience earned it the prestigious Gold A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, recognizing its exceptional contribution to retail space design.
