Taüll 1123 Heritage VideoMapping

Taüll 1123 Heritage VideoMapping is a groundbreaking permanent multimedia installation that digitally recreates and preserves the renowned 12th-century Romanesque frescoes of Sant Climent de Taüll through advanced projection mapping technology. This innovative cultural heritage preservation project employs six Full HD video projectors and a sophisticated media server to project high-resolution recreations of the original medieval paintings across approximately 160 square meters of the church's apse. The installation not only serves as a digital restoration but also provides an educational experience by demonstrating the historical painting techniques employed during the Romanesque period. Through meticulous 3D scanning of the church's interior and precise digital reproduction of each artistic element, the project achieves an unprecedented level of accuracy in matching the projection to the original architectural features and remaining traces of the original frescoes. The installation, launched in 2013, represents a significant advancement in heritage conservation and presentation techniques, earning recognition with a Golden A' Design Award in the Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry Design category. The project's technical innovation lies in its ability to create an immersive experience that seamlessly integrates historical authenticity with contemporary digital technology, while ensuring the preservation of the remaining original fragments through non-invasive projection techniques. The sophisticated sound design and careful attention to historical detail transport viewers to the medieval period, creating an emotional connection to the artistic heritage while maintaining scientific and archaeological rigor.
