Supporting Umbrella Independent Support is an innovative umbrella storage solution designed to address the common challenge of elegant umbrella placement in residential settings. This thoughtfully crafted design, created by Chinese designer Li Purui, represents a significant departure from traditional umbrella stands by combining functionality with aesthetic refinement. The design features a crown-inspired form factor with dimensions of 158mm in width and depth, and 148mm in height, constructed primarily from PMMA (Acrylic) for the main stand and hard silica gel for the chute boot components. The system incorporates an ingenious design element with four fulcrum points to ensure structural stability, while a circular groove inside the umbrella stand efficiently collects rainwater. The design's innovative approach lies in its adaptable sleeve system, where silicone sleeves with varying diameters (17mm, 13mm, and 9mm) accommodate different umbrella sizes through slight deformation, ensuring optimal contact between the umbrella and its support structure. Developed between June 2018 and November 2019 in Wuhan, China, this design solution emerged from extensive user experience research and represents a sophisticated response to the practical challenges of umbrella storage in personal spaces. The project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Idea and Conceptual Design category, demonstrates exceptional attention to both functional requirements and aesthetic considerations, offering a more personalized and elegant approach to umbrella storage compared to conventional solutions. Its compact footprint and versatile design make it particularly suitable for modern living spaces where traditional bulky umbrella stands might be impractical.
