Sunrise Residential Space
Sunrise Residential Space is an innovative residential renovation project completed in June 2020 in Hsinchu, Taiwan, that exemplifies sustainable architectural transformation through thoughtful design considerations and modern aesthetic sensibilities. This 82.7-square-meter project, designed by Jia-Ru Chen and Te-Chih Lo, represents a significant reimagining of a 50-year-old residence, incorporating contemporary design elements while addressing regional environmental challenges. The renovation's distinctive approach prioritizes sustainability by utilizing white iron sheet exterior cladding, effectively minimizing construction waste and facilitating easier maintenance. The interior design seamlessly blends industrial aesthetics with comfortable living spaces, featuring materials such as red culture stone, iron pieces, architectural concrete, and wood-patterned brick flooring specifically chosen to combat high humidity issues. The spatial layout incorporates arc-curved walls to eliminate sharp corners, creating a fluid, harmonious environment that enhances the overall spatial experience. The design includes thoughtfully planned social areas, with the living and dining rooms offering generous gathering spaces, while a dedicated pet-friendly area on the second floor introduces warmth to the industrial aesthetic. The project, which won an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2021, demonstrates exceptional attention to technical requirements, including comprehensive pipeline replanning and careful consideration of spatial efficiency in a narrow, longitudinal layout. The design successfully creates a welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of a boutique hotel or café, while maintaining practical functionality and addressing specific environmental challenges through innovative material selection and architectural solutions.
