Sugar of Wagu Candy is an innovative packaging design project that revolutionizes the presentation of a traditional Tujia nationality delicacy from Hubei Province, China. This culturally significant confectionery, processed from grain amaranth seeds, represents a fusion of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design sensibilities. The packaging design, created by designer Jie Yang, exemplifies a profound commitment to environmental sustainability and cultural preservation, earning recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category. The design's distinctive feature lies in its innovative use of natural plant-based pigments, extracted from local Tujia brocade art, incorporating 8-10 traditional colors that naturally biodegrade over time, completing an ecological cycle within approximately one year. The packaging's physical structure ingeniously transforms into a tiger shape, measuring approximately 15cm in length, 8cm in width, and 20cm in height, symbolically connecting with the Chinese zodiac year of the tiger while embodying the concept of tiger is powerful and sweet. This thoughtful design approach not only elevates the product's market presence but also serves as a bridge between traditional cultural values and modern environmental consciousness.
