Stretch Bench is an innovative outdoor seating element that challenges conventional furniture design through its unique interpretation of material properties and form. Created by Turkish designer Tulin Atamer Karaagac, this remarkable piece explores the conceptual tension between a material's natural characteristics and imposed design elements, particularly through the illusion of stretching solid wood - a naturally rigid material. The bench, crafted from a single 320-centimeter length of solid billet wood, features a distinctive carved form that creates a visual impression of the wood being stretched, despite the material's inherent inflexibility. This modular seating solution incorporates Corian side elements that serve both as structural supports and functional surfaces, elevating the wooden section for protection while doubling as convenient side tables. The design's versatility is demonstrated through its adaptable configuration options, allowing for either independent use accommodating four people or an expanded arrangement in a perpendicular formation that seats up to eight individuals.
