Stratification & Border Private Residence
Stratification & Border Private Residence is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies contemporary spatial design principles through its sophisticated approach to open-plan living. Created by Steven Chen for a single female professional in Taichung, this 209-square-meter residence masterfully blurs traditional boundaries between private and public spaces through a distinctive concentric layout centered around a transformed structural pillar. The design's conceptual framework revolves around the principles of stratification and seamless spatial integration, utilizing a circular organizational system that radiates outward from the central axis. The residence showcases an exceptional material palette comprising fumigated oak, brown glass, and deliberate use of white space, creating a harmonious interplay between transparency and opacity. The sophisticated circulation pattern is enhanced through cleverly positioned doorways and contrasting flooring materials, with smoked wood flooring defining the living spaces and light-colored stone marking transitional areas. The project's innovative approach to spatial flexibility is achieved through amber glass sliding doors and mirrored surfaces that create ambiguous transitions between different functional zones. This thoughtfully executed design, which was completed in 2016, earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its excellence in spatial planning and material application. The residence stands as a testament to contemporary interior architecture's ability to balance aesthetic refinement with functional adaptability, particularly addressing the evolving needs of modern urban living.
