Strabo Store is an innovative retail space concept that reimagines the traditional high-street shopping experience through a minimalist less is more philosophy. Designed by Rolans Novikovs, this 228.5-square-meter retail environment represents a significant departure from conventional retail design by prioritizing customer experience over product density. The store, transformed from a 1970s bank building, features a distinctive architectural approach that harmoniously combines geometric elements, including hexagonal floor tiles with brass trims and modular triangle blocks supported by a metal framework. The space is characterized by its thoughtful division into distinct zones, including a unique exhibition-like walkway with jewelry niches that cleverly resolves the challenge of a narrow corridor inherited from the original bank layout. The design philosophy emphasizes creating breathing space for customers, contrasting with the typical retail environment's tendency to maximize product display density. A notable feature is the integration of a dedicated lounge area where customers can enjoy non-alcoholic beverages while maintaining visual connection with the brand's products, thereby extending the duration and quality of customer engagement. The project, completed between October 2013 and May 2015 in Oxford, UK, exemplifies innovative interior retail design through its sophisticated use of materials, including aluminum stud frames, plasterboard, and hard adhesive vinyls for graphic areas. The design's excellence was recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its contribution to advancing retail design practices through its focus on customer experience and spatial innovation.
