Step Desk Or Console

Step Desk Or Console

Step Desk or Console is an innovative furniture design that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of form and function, characterized by its distinctive gradient aesthetic and versatile utility. This multifunctional piece, designed by Jannat Vasi Lokhandwala, employs a sophisticated progression of five RAL color shades (RAL9003, RAL7047, RAL7042, RAL7011, RAL9005) to create an enhanced visual depth within the boundaries of a standalone functional object. Crafted from premium Burma teak with a cross-section of 50mm x 63.5mm and incorporating 19mm marine ply storage, the design achieves a remarkable balance between practicality and sculptural beauty. The piece's clean lines and sharp edges are complemented by its gradient transition, which creates an illusion of weightlessness despite its substantial construction. When functioning as a work desk, it provides ergonomic comfort and concealed storage solutions, while its versatility allows it to serve as a striking sculptural console or space divider when not in use for work purposes. The design, which garnered recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in its execution, particularly in the precise progression of color gradients that required meticulous hand-crafted implementation. Its innovative approach to furniture design addresses contemporary spatial challenges while maintaining aesthetic sophistication, making it particularly suitable for modern interior environments where multifunctionality and visual impact are equally valued.
