Stalker Chest Of Drawers

Stalker Chest Of Drawers

Stalker Chest of Drawers is an innovative piece of furniture that seamlessly merges artistic expression with functional design, created by designers Milincu Camil and Tudoran Otilia. This distinctive chest of drawers, standing at 1700mm tall with a 400mm square base, represents a profound exploration of self-reflection and personal identity, conceived during the introspective period of the Covid-19 pandemic. The design's most striking feature is its sophisticated integration of prismatic mirrors (corner reflectors) that create multiple reflections of the viewer's eyes from any viewing angle, establishing an intimate dialogue between the object and its observer. The structure comprises eleven non-identical drawers asymmetrically distributed across all four sides, crafted from plywood and adorned with a vertical wooden texture that maintains visual continuity throughout the piece. The drawers, concealed behind this dark vertical pattern and marked by tinned steel handles, serve as repositories for personal memories and artifacts. Constructed primarily from beechwood, ash wood, and plywood, with galvanized and tinned steel accents, the piece demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship in its manual construction and attention to detail. The design follows a tripartite composition corresponding to human body proportions: head, body, and legs, with specially engineered bent steel legs supporting the wooden structure. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning creation in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category stands as a testament to the intersection of furniture design and artistic expression, challenging traditional boundaries between functional furniture and conceptual art through its innovative use of materials and thoughtful exploration of human perception and identity.
