Sounds Of Welser Interactive Installation
Sounds of Welser Interactive Installation is an innovative interactive sound sculpture that transforms steel profiles into a sophisticated musical instrument, merging industrial materials with digital technology to create an immersive visitor experience. This permanent installation, launched in September 2021 in Lower Austria, stands as a testament to the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and modern interactive design, measuring 4000mm in width, 1000mm in depth, and 3400mm in height. The installation's design resembles a classical organ but incorporates advanced technology, featuring 18 steel profiles that respond to human touch through carefully calibrated capacitive sensors, producing nine distinct tones across two octaves on each side. The sophisticated system employs hidden technology, including a PC, microcontroller, and dual speakers, while the profiles themselves are mounted on an insulating wooden base to ensure safe interaction. A significant technical achievement of the installation lies in its specially developed alloy coating, which successfully balances durability against flash rusting while maintaining optimal electrical conductivity for the touch-sensitive interface. The dynamic sound engine continuously evolves, changing its instrumental sets periodically to create unique, mystical soundscapes that respond to visitor interaction. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning installation in the Interactive, Experiential and Immersive Design Installations category represents a masterful blend of industrial heritage and contemporary interactive design, creating an engaging platform that allows visitors to physically connect with and experience the material properties of steel in an unprecedented way.
