Slegger Snow Sledge Snow Sledge is an innovative recreational winter sports equipment designed for dual-rider use, exemplifying a harmonious blend of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design principles. This environmentally conscious snow sledge, created by designers Levent Muslular and Kiraz Sema Turhan, features a sophisticated body structure engineered to distribute riders' weight evenly across its slides, enhancing both stability and control during descent. The design incorporates natural materials including wood, aluminum, steel, and cotton, demonstrating a commitment to ecological sustainability while maintaining high performance standards. The sledge's distinctive construction includes seats that are thoughtfully trimmed from the body and assembled in reverse orientation, creating an ergonomic riding position for both users. Measuring 1500mm x 700mm x 250mm, the sledge utilizes plywood for its body, slides, and steering board, which are shaped through a precise bending technique. The design features an intuitive control system where the front rider manages steering via a rein system with feet positioned on a dedicated steering board, while the rear rider operates breaking sticks mounted on both sides for speed control and additional steering support. This dual-control mechanism allows for enhanced maneuverability and safety during descent, while the rein also serves as a practical pulling mechanism for uphill transport. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Sporting Goods, Fitness and Recreation Equipment Design category, represents a successful attempt to modernize traditional sledge design while preserving the authentic sledging experience through the use of natural materials and innovative engineering solutions.
