Siam More Thai Bar Restaurant
Siam More Thai Bar Restaurant is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies contemporary Thai dining aesthetics through its sophisticated spatial arrangement and thoughtful atmospheric elements. Located in Taoyuan, Taiwan, this 192-square-meter establishment represents a significant advancement in restaurant interior design, drawing inspiration from traditional Thai elements, particularly banana leaves, to create an immersive dining environment. The design, conceptualized and executed by Yu Ming Cheng between December 2014 and June 2015, employs a distinctive approach to spatial partitioning through abstracted elements that create simultaneous reflection and penetration effects. The restaurant's visual focal point eschews conventional spotlight emphasis, instead utilizing sophisticated light manipulation through washed-wall reflections and black-glass grill penetration, which harmoniously highlights traditional Thai purple tones while enhancing the cuisine's characteristic presentation. The material palette includes black glass, Kalopanax ricinifolium veneer, rust paint, iron paint, and matte quartz tiles, carefully selected to achieve a balance between coziness and sophistication. The design's innovative approach to customer comfort ensures that even at full capacity, diners experience neither crowding nor visual interference, while the carefully orchestrated interplay of atmosphere, sound, odor, and light maintains an engaging ambiance even during less busy periods. This exceptional design achievement was recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2017, acknowledging its outstanding contribution to contemporary restaurant design through its creative interpretation of Thai cultural elements and innovative spatial solutions.
