Shuttles Of Light Residence

Shuttles Of Light Residence

Shuttles of Light Residence is an innovative seven-story residential architectural masterpiece located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, designed by Wang Pin-Ho and Wang Pin-Shian, that exemplifies sustainable living through thoughtful spatial design and innovative material usage. The 413.7-square-meter interior space features a revolutionary open-plan concept with a suspended staircase that facilitates natural light penetration and air circulation between floors, significantly reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. The design's most distinctive feature is its minimalist approach, which prioritizes flexibility and maintenance efficiency while incorporating a groundbreaking use of modified reservoir sludge as a waterproof additive, transforming potential landfill waste into an aesthetically pleasing natural texture. The residence accommodates three generations through carefully planned spaces, including a spacious living room doubling as a home theater, an eight-person window-side restaurant, and a kitchen island that reimagines traditional indoor traffic flow. The top floor provides an independent living space bathed in natural light, while the mezzanine level, featuring a retractable floor and floating steel stairs, serves as a transitional space that enhances vertical connectivity. The project, which was completed in September 2022, earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its exceptional approach to sustainable residential design and innovative space utilization.
