Shou Product Design is an innovative cultural fusion project that reimagines traditional Chinese rank badge aesthetics for contemporary applications, created by designers Susu Yao and Feng Liang. This sophisticated design initiative, which earned a Golden A' Design Award in the Textile, Fabric, Textures, Patterns and Cloth Design category, masterfully reinterprets the ancient Chinese tradition of official rank badges, particularly focusing on the auspicious beasts and birds that symbolized different ranks of civil and military officers. The design process involved extensive research into Chinese official patch culture and employed modern digital techniques, utilizing software such as Photoshop and Illustrator to deconstruct and reconstruct traditional patterns. The resulting collection features fifteen series of products that incorporate high-saturation colors and premium materials, including velvet with diamond luster properties that create dynamic visual effects under varying light conditions. The designs are presented through digital printing and oil painting mounting techniques, encased in wooden frames that enhance their decorative appeal. This project stands out for its successful integration of historical elements with contemporary design methodologies, effectively bridging the gap between Eastern cultural heritage and modern aesthetic sensibilities. The designers particularly focused on maintaining the spiritual and cultural significance of the original rank badges while making them accessible and relevant to modern audiences, demonstrating how traditional design elements can be thoughtfully adapted for contemporary spaces without losing their cultural essence.
