Shogun Castle Remodeling Apartment House

Shogun Castle Remodeling Apartment House

Shogun Castle Remodeling Apartment House is a distinguished interior renovation project completed in Fukuoka, Japan, that masterfully transforms a traditional Japanese-style room into an artistic sanctuary within a modern apartment complex. This innovative architectural intervention, completed in September 2019, seamlessly integrates contemporary design elements with traditional Japanese aesthetics, featuring unique artistic installations created by four specialized artists known for their work in reproducing national treasure picture scrolls. The project encompasses a total floor area of 97.80 square meters, with a dedicated 10-square-meter space serving as the landlord's special chamber, metaphorically referred to as the Shogun's quarters. The design philosophy centers on creating infinite depth and storytelling through space, achieved through the meticulous application of traditional materials including diatomaceous earth, Japanese tatami mats, hemp paper, natural mineral pigments, and gold leaf. The project's distinctive feature lies in its artistic wall and ceiling treatments, where each surface bears original drawings and signatures from the commissioned artists, creating a narrative-rich environment. The renovation strategically contrasts an inorganic living space with a gorgeously appointed Japanese-style room, utilizing natural light to enhance the spatial dynamics. This award-winning design, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2021, demonstrates exceptional creativity in spatial design while preserving and reinterpreting traditional Japanese architectural elements for contemporary living.
