ShiCheng Invest Living Room

ShiCheng Invest Living Room is an innovative interior design project that masterfully integrates traditional Chinese cultural elements with contemporary design sensibilities, created by designer Xiaorui Zhou. This 120-square-meter space, completed in March 2018 in Shanghai, serves as a sophisticated reception and office area that draws inspiration from classical Chinese architectural principles and philosophical concepts. The design's distinctive feature is its interpretation of traditional Chinese residential architecture, incorporating elements such as the iconic screen wall concept and The Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival artwork, which creates a harmonious balance between historical reverence and modern functionality. The space employs a thoughtful surround layout with clear circulation patterns, utilizing high-quality materials including real wood and refined textile elements to achieve a sophisticated aesthetic. A notable architectural element is the central ceiling's arc chandelier, inspired by bamboo forms, creating a seamless integration of natural elements. The design's philosophical depth is expressed through the innovative incorporation of the 64 hexagrams from the Zhou Yi (I Ching), manifested in 32 capsule-shaped sculptures that serve both decorative and symbolic purposes. This cultural integration extends to the space's organization, which follows the traditional Chinese concept of courtyard hierarchy - one courtyard, two courtyard, three courtyard - adapting these historical principles for contemporary corporate use. The project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2019, demonstrates exceptional skill in creating a space that facilitates meaningful dialogue and cultural exchange while maintaining a delicate balance between oriental heritage and modern design requirements.
