Shenzhen Longyuan School

Shenzhen Longyuan School is an innovative nine-year comprehensive educational campus located in Longgang, Shenzhen, China, designed to accommodate 3,360 students across 72 classes while revolutionizing traditional educational spaces through its unique architectural and interior design approach. The project, designed by Kevin Hu and Zhong Qiao, represents a significant advancement in educational facility design, earning recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category. The school's distinctive L-shaped layout maximizes limited urban space with a plot ratio of 1.24, seamlessly integrating traditional and open teaching methodologies through thoughtfully designed spaces. Drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese architecture, the design incorporates interconnected corridors and alleys to create a nature-friendly environment that functions as a green valley amidst urban development. The campus features specialized zones including primary and middle school teaching buildings, a lecture theater, gymnasium, staff dormitory, and canteen, all connected through an innovative system of steps, ramps, lanes, corridors, and courtyards. The social corridor, dubbed the Dreamy Passageway, serves as a vital connecting element, featuring five distinctively colored spaces - the Golden Forum, Wooden Stage, Water Sound Room, Fire Painting Pavilion, and Earth Workshop - that promote interactive learning and social engagement. The interior design showcases sustainable materials including wooden furnishings, aluminum sheets with artistic patterns, and oak bookshelves, creating warm and acoustically optimized learning environments. The project's sophisticated approach to space utilization includes elevated courtyards on green slopes, strategic positioning of facilities for optimal functionality, and careful consideration of environmental factors such as natural lighting and ventilation patterns.
