Sheng Ming Yue Mooncake Gift Box

Sheng Ming Yue Mooncake Gift Box

Sheng Ming Yue Mooncake Gift Box is an innovative and eco-conscious packaging design that reimagines traditional mooncake presentation for the Mid-Autumn Festival, created by designers Hu Wan, Li Jianpeng, and Shi Xiaoxia. This sophisticated gift box, measuring 200mm in width, 110mm in depth, and 255mm in height, masterfully integrates Chinese cultural elements with sustainable design principles. The design draws inspiration from the classical Chinese poem about moonlight over the sea, incorporating a unique folding mechanism that mimics a traditional Chinese fan, revealing a rising moon motif as the box unfolds. Distinguished by its Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category, this creation addresses contemporary concerns about excessive packaging waste while maintaining premium gift-giving aesthetics. The structural innovation, achieved through three rounds of prototype testing, enables the fan-like opening mechanism while maximizing internal space efficiency. The design's artistic elements feature a starry sky backdrop that creates a profound sense of scale, complementing the central moon motif and emphasizing themes of reunion and connection central to Mid-Autumn Festival traditions. This thoughtful balance between functional design and cultural symbolism represents a significant advancement in sustainable luxury packaging, offering a more compact and environmentally responsible alternative that maintains the ceremonial significance of mooncake gifting while promoting conscious consumption practices.
