Shelfium Multifunctional Furniture is an innovative modular furniture system designed by Stanislav Meliš and Jozef Michalko that revolutionizes the approach to customizable storage solutions and furniture creation. Developed between 2018 and 2021 in Bratislava, Slovakia, this versatile system employs a fundamental connecting element crafted from CNC-milled solid oak treated with hard wax oil, featuring cross-sections of 30 x 20 mm in various lengths (400, 520, and 640 mm). The system's core innovation lies in its ability to unite different materials and components through a sophisticated spatial structure, allowing users to create diverse furniture pieces ranging from libraries and shelving units to room dividers and coat racks. The design incorporates stainless steel bar elements in lengths of 90, 180, 270, and 360 mm, which can be combined to achieve desired dimensions, while supporting various materials including toughened glass, solid wood, chipboard, Plexiglas, MDF, and PETfelt for shelving and side panels. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning creation stands out for its commitment to sustainability and user empowerment, offering both ready-made kits with recyclable materials and the flexibility to incorporate upcycled components according to individual preferences. The system's design philosophy emphasizes minimal material usage while maximizing structural integrity, achieved through extensive research into material strengths and joint combinations.
