Sheerin Pavilion Exhibition is an innovative architectural installation designed for the 2023 Guangzhou Design Week, representing a groundbreaking approach to sustainable exhibition design and material showcase. The pavilion, spanning 192 square meters with dimensions of 16 meters in length, 12 meters in width, and 5.5 meters in height, employs an ingenious inverted pyramid structure that harmoniously combines form and mechanical principles. This architectural marvel serves as a showcase for sintered stones, utilizing artificial materials to simulate a natural stone canyon environment, creating an intriguing dialogue between artificial and natural elements. The design's sophisticated structural system, verified through PK.PM software calculations, incorporates a combination of steel and wood components, featuring CNC-milled wooden elements and both mass-produced and custom-made metal parts. The pavilion's distinctive characteristic lies in its systematic approach to sustainability, employing a modular frame system that enables complete recyclability and efficient assembly, transportation, and reassembly processes. This innovative approach directly addresses the significant environmental impact of the exhibition industry in China, where over 11,000 annual exhibitions generate approximately 119 million cubic meters of construction waste. The project, completed in December 2023, exemplifies excellence in exhibition design through its thoughtful integration of space, structure, and sustainability, earning it the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award in the Trade Show Architecture, Interiors, and Exhibit Design category, recognizing its exceptional contribution to advancing sustainable design practices in commercial exhibitions.
