Shanmu Store Retail Space is an innovative retail interior design project that masterfully blends traditional Taiwanese architectural elements with contemporary design sensibilities. Located in Taichung City and completed in 2020, this 97-square-meter establishment (58 square meters indoors, 39 square meters outdoors) serves as a flagship store for wedding cookies, embodying Taiwan's cultural heritage through thoughtful material selection and spatial arrangement. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, features distinctive elements such as hexagonal mosaic flooring patterns inspired by native Taiwanese flowers, vintage brick grilles that create permeable spatial divisions, and traditional rattan weaving incorporated into cabinet doors. The space's sophisticated design language is articulated through multiple zones, including product display areas, a counter, and two balconies, all unified by a cohesive aesthetic that pays homage to Taiwan's architectural legacy. The interior's most striking features include an all-titanium-plated customized door frame, extensive use of stone paint for product display cabinets, and an island-shaped solid wood presentation area that references Taiwan's oceanic character. The innovative use of traditional building materials with modern applications creates a unique atmosphere that bridges past and present, while the strategic implementation of brick grilles and sheers not only addresses spatial constraints but also facilitates natural light penetration, creating dynamic shadow plays throughout the day. The design successfully overcomes spatial limitations through clever material choices and layout solutions, resulting in a retail environment that feels both intimate and expansive, while maintaining strong connections to its cultural roots.
