Sfumato Shelving System

Sfumato Shelving System

Sfumato Shelving System is an innovative modular shelving solution that masterfully translates urban architectural aesthetics into functional furniture design. Drawing inspiration from metropolitan skylines, this sophisticated storage system features a distinctive silhouette characterized by a solid, substantial base that gradually transitions into more fragmented and ethereal elements toward the top, while maintaining a continuous horizontal foundation. The system, which earned the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, comprises three primary modules of varying heights (228x68cm, 194x68cm, and 150x68cm) that can be combined to create diverse configurations. Constructed from matt-lacquered MDF, the system incorporates thoughtfully designed compartments, shelves, and doors that enable users to either display or conceal items, creating an interplay of shadows and visibility. The design's most remarkable achievement lies in its seamless visual cohesion when multiple modules are combined, presenting a unified aesthetic regardless of the configuration. This sophisticated shelving system represents a harmonious blend of form and function, suitable for both residential and office environments, where it serves not merely as storage but as an architectural element that transforms interior spaces through its dynamic presence. The design team, led by Nedim Mutevelic, successfully addressed the challenge of creating a modular system that maintains visual continuity while offering practical storage solutions, resulting in a piece that exemplifies contemporary furniture design's ability to merge artistic expression with everyday functionality.
