Setsugekka Japanese Cuisine Japanese Cuisine is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Japanese culinary philosophy with contemporary spatial design, completed in 2016 in Changchun, China. The 1,300-square-meter restaurant space, designed by Tianwen Sun and Xindi Cao, draws profound inspiration from the Japanese artistic concept of setsu-getsu-ka (snow, moon, flowers), masterfully interpreted through an interplay of blue, yellow, and pink lighting schemes that represent winter, fall, and spring respectively. The design philosophy transcends mere aesthetic considerations, focusing on conveying the spiritual essence of Japanese cuisine through architectural elements and interior ambiance. The space features sophisticated design elements including ultra-clear engraved glass with sakura motifs, blue LED light bands, and a minimalist black sushi counter, all carefully orchestrated to create a cohesive Zen atmosphere. The project's exceptional merit in spatial innovation and cultural interpretation was recognized with the Platinum A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its outstanding contribution to contemporary restaurant design. The interior environment demonstrates a deep understanding of Japanese culinary principles, particularly the concept of right time to eat, while incorporating modern architectural solutions that enhance the dining experience through thoughtful material selection including glass, tatami, and strategic lighting design that transforms the space into an immersive cultural journey.
