Sergio Larrain

Sergio Larrain (1931-2012) was a Chilean photographer renowned for his complex imagery. He studied architecture at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, which shaped his artistic vision and informed his formal approach to composition. He is best known for his intense, black-and-white photographs that captured the subtle beauty of everyday life in Chile and beyond. His work, which often portrayed a dreamlike quality, was moments of time suspended in eternity. His iconic images of everyday life have since become part of the national memory of Chile and its people. His most celebrated works includes: Valparaiso (1959), La Mano del Hombre (1960), Los Niños de Valparaiso (1962), and Vientos de Paz (1966).
