Seating Guide Train Ticket is an innovative service design solution that addresses passenger navigation challenges in train transportation through an enhanced ticket design incorporating an intuitive seat-finding system. This strategic design intervention, created by designers WenKai Li and Dan Yu, integrates a visual guide map directly onto conventional train tickets, enabling passengers to quickly identify optimal entrance points and efficiently locate their assigned seats. The design, measuring 85mm x 54mm x 0.2mm, utilizes a simple yet effective marking system where the ticket-issuing machine indicates seat locations with black symbols, significantly reducing corridor congestion and improving the overall passenger experience. Developed between October 2016 and January 2017 in Hangzhou, this solution emerged from extensive field research and passenger surveys that identified a critical pain point in train travel: the 50% probability of passengers choosing suboptimal entrances when accessing their train cars. The design's significance lies in its resource-efficient approach to solving a universal challenge in public transportation, particularly benefiting elderly, disabled, or mobility-impaired passengers. The innovative service design earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Meta, Strategic and Service Design category, acknowledging its contribution to improving public transportation accessibility and efficiency. The design's implementation requires minimal modification to existing ticketing systems while delivering substantial improvements in passenger flow management and overall service quality, demonstrating how thoughtful design interventions can enhance public transportation systems through simple yet effective solutions.
