Scacco Matto Portable Lamp

Scacco Matto Portable Lamp

Scacco Matto Portable Lamp is an innovative portable lighting solution that exemplifies the convergence of artistic expression and functional design, drawing profound inspiration from the 1960s radical design movement. This versatile illumination device, designed by Italian designer Francesco Cappuccio, consists of three magnetically connected elements that can be reconfigured into five distinct light sculptures, embodying the strategic complexity of chess - hence its name, which translates to checkmate in Italian. The lamp's sophisticated design incorporates aluminum construction with integrated LED technology and a robust 3.7V 4400mAh-16.28wh USB rechargeable battery, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use with an IP64 rating. Measuring 116mm in width and depth, with a height of 281mm, the lamp's proportions have been meticulously calculated to house its technical components while maintaining aesthetic harmony. The design's unique ability to transform between different configurations allows users to create varied lighting effects, from ambient illumination to focused task lighting, while simultaneously functioning as a decorative vase or sculptural element. This multifunctional approach to lighting design earned the creation a Silver A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, recognizing its contribution to innovative domestic lighting solutions. The lamp's design philosophy challenges traditional boundaries between art and design, encouraging users to explore the transformative potential of light in shaping spatial atmospheres while maintaining practical functionality.
