SB11 Sideboard is a sophisticated and versatile piece of furniture designed by Christian Kroepfl, exemplifying contemporary functional aesthetics through its innovative modular construction. The design features individual cabinets ingeniously sandwiched between horizontal wood slabs, supported by a refined steel lattice framework that provides both structural integrity and visual lightness. Available in multiple lengths ranging from 184 to 264 centimeters, with a consistent depth of 45 centimeters and height of 76 centimeters, this sideboard offers exceptional adaptability in various interior settings. The piece showcases meticulous material selection, incorporating naturally oiled wood available in oak, American walnut, or ash finishes, combined with lacquered MDF cabinet surfaces that can be customized in different color combinations. Originally conceived as an entertainment center, the SB11 demonstrates remarkable versatility in its functionality, accommodating file folders, books, and notably, upright vinyl records, while featuring optional enhancements such as integrated cable management systems, ventilation openings for audio/video equipment, and concealed power connection sleeves. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2017, represents a harmonious blend of form and function, with its overlapping wood slabs at the back facilitating seamless cable management, while its tip-on opening system exemplifies thoughtful user interaction. The development of this piece, completed between September 2015 and February 2016, required extensive research and innovation, particularly in developing an appropriate opening mechanism, resulting in a design that successfully balances aesthetic refinement with practical utility.
