Sapeli Muteo Door System

Sapeli Muteo Door System

Sapeli Muteo Door System is an innovative architectural door solution that revolutionizes the traditional concept of door design by completely eliminating the need for handles, representing a significant advancement in interior architecture and door system technology. This groundbreaking design, created by Petr Novague, features a patented mechanical lock system that works in harmony with a distinctive Z-shaped door profile to create a seamlessly functional unit that operates through simple push-pull movements. The system's ingenious design allows for the integration of continuous surfaces between doors and surrounding walls, offering architects unprecedented creative freedom in interior design. Developed between June 2017 and February 2019, this sophisticated door system can be manufactured using various materials, including wood veneers, glass, and metal finishes, while its internal structure typically comprises engineered wood products. The design's technical specifications accommodate dimensions of up to 1000mm x 300mm x 2200mm, with a weight of approximately 25000 grams, making it suitable for diverse architectural applications. The system's innovative approach to door operation emerged from extensive research into fundamental user interactions, which revealed that natural door movement tends toward simple pushing and pulling actions rather than handle manipulation. This insight led to the development of an automatic mechanism that enhances user comfort while maintaining architectural elegance. The design's excellence was recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in the Building Materials and Construction Components Design category in 2019, acknowledging its contribution to advancing building component design through innovation, functionality, and aesthetic appeal.
