Salmet Bistro Commercial Space is an exemplary architectural renovation project that transformed a 40-year-old rural house in Taiwan into a sophisticated culinary establishment, masterfully blending traditional elements with contemporary design sensibilities. The 83-square-meter interior space, complemented by a 15-square-meter exterior area, represents a harmonious fusion of Eastern architectural heritage and Western modernist aesthetics. The design, conceived by Chiao Huang and Zack Tsai, preserves and reimagines the original structure's red brick and stone elements, presenting them in a modern context that creates a dialogue between past and present. The space features innovative architectural solutions, including a distinctive curved entrance design that creates an inviting visual flow, and a seamlessly integrated indoor-outdoor bar area that dissolves traditional spatial boundaries. Notable technical achievements include the custom-designed stone flooring and wall decorations, produced by local artisans, and the sophisticated integration of curved stainless steel panels with traditional materials. The lighting design employs gradated illumination techniques that enhance the vintage textures while creating contemporary ambiance. This exceptional renovation project, which was completed in October 2021, earned the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, recognizing its outstanding contribution to commercial space design. The bistro's design successfully supports its culinary concept of presenting local Taiwanese ingredients through Western culinary techniques, creating a space that serves as a cultural bridge between traditional architecture and modern gastronomy.
