Rui Lei Cafe Coffee Shop is an innovative interior design project that masterfully blends Chinese architectural traditions with contemporary coffee culture, located in Shenyang, China. Completed in February 2018, this transformative design project, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, represents a sophisticated interpretation of cultural fusion through architectural elements. The name 'Rui' references traditional Chinese mortise and tenon joints, while 'Lei' symbolizes blooming flowers, embodying both structural integrity and aesthetic growth. The 120-square-foot space features a striking central design element comprising imported Russian wooden sticks in 20x20 and 10x10 cubic meter specifications, arranged in a sophisticated pattern that evokes both the dynamic motion of boiling water in coffee preparation and the dense urban landscape of Shenyang. The interior's focal point is an ingeniously designed central wooden column that connects to suspended wooden elements, creating a visual metaphor for the coffee-making process from bean to cup. The space incorporates a wooden stage adorned with imported leather seating, while the thoughtful use of varying brown tones creates a cohesive visual narrative that celebrates coffee culture. The design's attention to acoustic properties is evident in the natural wood crack features and arc-shaped rear wall, which together create an optimal sound environment. The innovative layout includes a streamlined book cabinet that integrates seamlessly with the suspended wooden elements, while cleverly concealing complex mechanical systems and piping, demonstrating exceptional space utilization in a relatively compact area. This award-winning design successfully transforms a traditional structure into a contemporary coffee shop that serves as both a functional commercial space and an artistic statement on the intersection of Eastern and Western design philosophies.
