Rotron Watch

Rotron Watch is an innovative timepiece that exemplifies the fusion of science fiction aesthetics with functional design, created by Iranian designer Shabnam Yazdanpanah. Drawing inspiration from science fiction cinema, particularly the visual language of Tron, this avant-garde wristwatch represents a significant departure from traditional timepiece design through its minimalist approach and futuristic user interface. The watch features a distinctive screen that extends along the wristlet, maintaining visual harmony when inactive, while its construction combines rubber watchband components with smooth metallic surfaces. The most notable innovation lies in its revolutionary interface, which eliminates conventional buttons in favor of a circular motion control system, significantly reducing operational complexity while enhancing user experience. The 42x42 cm screen dimension accommodates various wrist sizes, making it suitable for diverse users. The design employs the Nigel Cross Methodology, following a systematic seven-stage development process to achieve its refined final form. Distinguished by its minimalist aesthetics, the watch incorporates characteristic elements such as the Tron Light Disc form, signature illumination effects, and seamless textures that pay homage to its sci-fi inspiration. The functionality encompasses time display, date indication, sound recording and playback capabilities, and an adjustable intensity flashlight feature integrated into the lighting disc. This groundbreaking design earned recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Jewelry Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to wearable technology and its contribution to advancing contemporary watch design. The project, completed between September 2014 and February 2015 in Tehran, demonstrates how science fiction aesthetics can be successfully translated into functional, contemporary personal accessories.
