Ropo Dustpan and Broom is an innovative cleaning implement that revolutionizes the traditional dustpan and broom design through its unique self-balancing mechanism, inspired by the classic weeble wobble toy. This ingenious household cleaning solution, designed by Berk Ilhan, incorporates a water-filled compartment in the base of the dustpan that serves as a counterweight, ensuring the unit remains upright regardless of its position. The design, measuring 400 mm x 470 mm x 1050 mm, features a modern organic form that brings aesthetic simplicity to interior spaces while addressing common storage and stability issues associated with conventional cleaning tools. The dustpan component is manufactured through rotational molding with an ultrasonic-welded water tank, while the broom is produced via injection molding with extruded polypropylene bristles. The design's innovative features include a straight lip for efficient dust collection and a snap-together mechanism that allows the broom and dustpan to be stored as a single, stable unit. This thoughtful solution emerged from extensive research into user behavior and storage patterns of cleaning implements, particularly addressing the common problem of brooms and dustpans falling over when stored. The design's playful rocking motion, combined with its practical functionality, transforms the mundane task of cleaning into a more engaging experience. The project, developed between December 2010 and September 2011, earned recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Idea and Conceptual Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to everyday product design and its potential impact on domestic cleaning practices.
