Rodolfo Console Table

Rodolfo Console Table

Rodolfo Console table is an innovative furniture piece that exemplifies the fusion of Filipino craftsmanship with contemporary design aesthetics, created by designer Ito Kish. This distinctive console table, which earned the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2014, showcases a compelling dual-sided design approach that presents two distinct visual experiences. The primary structure, crafted from sustainably sourced kiln-dried Mahogany, features a rectangular form measuring 1500mm x 400mm x 850mm, finished with black veneer that maintains visible wood grain patterns. The table's most striking characteristic lies in its contrasting facades - while one side presents a sophisticated, masculine appearance adorned with meticulously applied Pinnidae (pen shells) sourced from Philippine waters, the opposite side reveals a deconstructed arrangement of inward-turning panels that create an illusion of dimensional depth. This intentional design contrast demonstrates advanced structural engineering, ensuring the console can bear substantial weight despite its complex internal architecture. The piece represents a thoughtful exploration of material combinations, incorporating locally-sourced Mahogany and pen shells, which not only emphasizes environmental sustainability but also celebrates Philippine natural resources. The design's cultural significance lies in its ability to merge traditional Asian craftsmanship with contemporary forms, reflecting the European-influenced historical context of Philippine design heritage. The meticulous attention to detail is evident in the careful application of pen shells, which provide an organic luminescence against the dark veneer, creating a sophisticated interplay of textures and materials that exemplifies modern luxury furniture design.
