Rhita Sustainability Suitcase is an innovative luggage design that revolutionizes traditional suitcase manufacturing through its groundbreaking approach to sustainability and modularity. Developed by designers Chunyu Pan, Yun Cheng, and Jhenjia Yang, this 24-inch travel solution features a pioneering hinge structure system that reduces component parts by 70 percent while eliminating the need for conventional binding materials such as glue, rivets, or sewn linings. The design's distinctive assembly methodology enables straightforward maintenance, repair, and customization through individually purchasable components, effectively extending the product's lifecycle and minimizing its environmental impact. The suitcase's intelligent engineering achieves a 33 percent reduction in freight volume, significantly decreasing its carbon footprint during transportation. Constructed primarily from PP (Polypropylene), the design incorporates a sophisticated three-point locking system with TSA functionality and smooth-rolling double wheels. Its dimensions of 390mm depth, 350mm height, and 730mm width are optimized for both functionality and sustainability. The project, completed in March 2020, represents a significant advancement in sustainable product design, earning recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Sustainable Products, Projects and Green Design category.
