Return To The Mountain Woods Apartment
Return to the Mountain Woods Apartment is an award-winning residential spatial planning project located in Taichung, Taiwan, encompassing an expansive area of 330 square meters that masterfully combines the concepts of a private residence and a social club. Designed by Kevin Chu, this sophisticated interior space exemplifies a harmonious blend of natural elements and modern luxury, created for a proprietor returning from overseas who desired a gathering space for family and friends. The design's distinctive approach incorporates premium materials including marble, stone, veneer, titanium plating, and steel panels to achieve a contemporary aesthetic while maintaining a connection to nature. The foyer features dark wood elements and spilled ink marble screens that create a flowing water effect, establishing a tranquil entrance experience. The public areas are structured around a central reception zone, incorporating the living room, dining room, and island bar counter, while the private spaces utilize earth tones to create a dignified atmosphere. Notable design elements include a television wall constructed from coarse grey Andesite, emphasizing natural stone qualities, and a dining room adorned with penetrative light fixtures resembling starlight against a dark grey backdrop. The master bedroom conceals functional storage and dressing areas behind cabinet work, maintaining a modern minimalist aesthetic that differs from the public spaces. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design, demonstrates innovative space utilization through double-square circulation and iron piece sliding doors that enhance visual transparency. The semi-open study area features cloud and mist-colored wallpaper combined with stone elements, creating a distinct cultural atmosphere, while a workshop space has been ingeniously integrated into what was initially considered a challenging area of the floor plan.
