Residence Of Chen Residential

Residence Of Chen Residential

Residence of Chen Residential is an award-winning interior design project completed in Taiwan that exemplifies contemporary minimalist living spaces through thoughtful spatial optimization and functional integration. The design, conceived and executed by Tsai Chun Wei, represents a significant departure from conventional residential layouts by eliminating standardized walls and emphasizing open-plan living. The project, which garnered a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design category, showcases a sophisticated approach to modern family living through its innovative spatial arrangement and material selection. The rectangular base layout deliberately minimizes decorative elements, instead focusing on essential living components while integrating the living room, dining room, and kitchen into a cohesive whole. The design's distinctive features include strategically placed low-profile furniture that maximizes natural light penetration, large windows that frame urban vistas, and a carefully curated material palette combining cement gray tones with warm wood elements. The space employs pandomo flooring to maintain tactile authenticity, while metal and translucent glass lighting fixtures add contemporary sophistication. Notable technical innovations include ceiling-integrated air conditioning vents and track lighting that create visual layering while defining distinct zones. The project, completed in December 2018, particularly addresses the needs of dual-income Taiwanese families by creating an environment that facilitates parent-child interaction through its open layout and thoughtful circulation patterns. The design's success lies in its ability to balance minimalist aesthetics with practical functionality, featuring elements such as a wall-mounted adjustable television and custom veneer storage solutions that maintain the space's clean lines while serving essential domestic needs.
